Looking for Teeth Whitening in Fort Lauderdale? Check These Details!

Cosmetic dentistry has evolved massively in the last couple of decades with more treatment options for various concerns. No matter whether you have gaps between your teeth or need advice on replacing missing teeth, you can find Fort Lauderdale cosmetic dentistry clinics for diverse concerns. Among the most common procedures done today is teeth whitening, which is all about correcting the color of your teeth to get rid of stains and get a whiter smile. Before you talk to a dentist, here’s an overview of the procedure.

Should you consider teeth whitening?

If you have yellow-tinted or stained teeth, you may consider teeth whitening, which allows you to fix aesthetic concerns. There are various options for teeth whitening, including in-office bleaching. The process, however, remains similar. A bleaching agent is used to get rid of the stains. The more common option is a home teeth-whitening system.

Understand the basics

Before you consider home teeth-whitening, remember that it is only viable for your natural teeth. If you have previous restorations, such as fillings, crowns, and bridges, your dentist will check if replacements are needed. If crowns or other restorations require replacement, your dentist will do that after the teeth whitening procedure is done to match the crowns and bridges with your natural teeth.

What causes teeth staining?

There are various reasons that may contribute to the staining of teeth, including fluorosis, use of certain medications, and eating stain-causing beverages and drinks.

What does teeth whitening involve?

If you want to go for home teeth whitening, you will have to visit your dentist twice. At the first appointment, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to design trays. These trays are made of plastic and are clear in color. When you return for the second appointment, you will try the trays for fit. The trays contain a special bleaching agent. Your dentist may ask you to wear the trays twice a day for 30 minutes for two to three weeks to get the desired results. Patients can also wear the trays overnight for two weeks.

How long do teeth-whitening results last?

The answer depends on how well you take care of your teeth. If you avoid stain-causing foods and keep up with oral hygiene practices, you can expect the results to last for a long time.

However, note that teeth whitening is not a permanent procedure, and you will have to come back for a touchup. Call your dentist today!
