About

*** Submitting New Questions is Currently Disabled ***

OraQA is different. It is structured in a way that allows any registered user to post questions and answers. The goal is to help the Oracle community find answers to common and not so common problems.

If you are an Oracle developer, an Oracle database administrator or an Oracle guru, please feel free to share your experiences by submitting questions (or problems) and answers (or solutions).

If you are just learning Oracle or want to expand your Oracle knowledge, please feel free to browse the site. In case you do not find your answer, you can always submit your own question.

Now, on to some FAQ’s:

What type of questions and answers can I submit?
Both questions and answers should be simple and atomic. An example of a bad question is: What is the difference between Oracle and SQL server? An example of a good question is: How to get the time zone of the database server? Questions are also categorized. Here is a list of current categories:

  • Administration
  • Backup
  • PL/SQL
  • SQL
  • Data Warehouse
  • HTMLDB
  • Jdeveloper
  • Security
  • Tuning
  • XML
  • E-Business Suite
  • Collab Suite

This list will grow over time. If you want to add a new category or sub-category, please contact the site administrator.

Can I submit a question without an answer?
Absolutely. If you submit just a question, the hope is that other members can provide an answer. If the administrator approves your question, it will be put in the “Question” category and published on OraQA. If your question is not approved, it will be deleted from the database.

Who can submit questions and answers?
Only registered users can submit questions, answers and comments. Anyone can register.

Can I include a link to my website or my blog when posting a question or an answer?
Absolutely. You can leave a link to your website (or blog) in your signature on any post or comment on OraQA. In fact, when you register, you can save the URL to your website (or blog) in your profile and it will automatically be linked to your name on any OraQA post or comment.

How do I register?
Click here to register. You will be required to enter only two things, a username and a valid e-mail address.

How do I submit questions?
Click on the “Login” link at the top right corner of your screen and enter your login information (assuming you are already registered). After you login, click on the “Write” link (the top menu) and start writing your question (post). Ideally, the post title will be your question and the post body your answer. The post body, or the answer, is optional. When done, just click on the “Save” button.

Are submissions moderated?
Yes. A post will not be public or published on the site until an administrator reviews it and publishes it. The administrator reserves the right to reject or not publish a post.
